The Holy Spirit - Apprehending the Kingdom
Jesus came to do far more than simply save people from sin; He came to reveal the Father, establish the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth, defeat the works of darkness, and raise up sons and daughters who would carry His authority. When Jesus spoke about the Kingdom, He was not describing an abstract idea or a future hope alone—He was announcing the active rule and reign of God breaking into the world through power, healing, restoration, and freedom. This is why everywhere Jesus went, He demonstrated the Kingdom by healing the sick, forgiving sin, restoring hope, and bringing order where there was chaos. The Holy Spirit was then sent to continue and complete that work through believers, empowering ordinary people to live with the same authority and purpose that Jesus modeled. John the Baptist’s struggle in prison reminds us that even faithful people can become discouraged when life does not unfold the way they expected, but instead of allowing disappointment to harden his heart, John brought his questions directly to Jesus. Ultimately, Jesus calls us to reject fear, passivity, and a victim mindset, and instead embrace the reality that the same Spirit who empowered Jesus now lives within us, enabling us to boldly advance the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Jesus says it is the violent - those with a passionate and uncompromising pursuit of The Kingdom - who will advance His Kingdom here on Earth.
