Why Your Words Matter
“Let your speech always be full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:6
Words are powerful. From the very beginning, creation itself was born through words —“God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). Because we are made in His image, our words also carry creative power. They can build up or tear down, speak life or release death (Proverbs 18:21). Every word we speak plants a seed — some grow into fruit that nourishes, while others produce thorns that choke out life.
Many of us grew up hearing, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Yet, deep down, we know that isn’t true. Words spoken over us, especially by those in authority, can shape how we see ourselves and what we believe about our worth. A parent’s encouragement can build confidence, while a careless insult can echo for years. Even the words of doctors, teachers, or friends can carry weight when we give them authority in our hearts.
But there’s another voice that has even greater influence...the one inside us. What are you saying to yourself? Do your thoughts agree with God’s truth, or do they echo lies of fear, doubt, or shame? Scripture calls us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2) and to speak life in agreement with what God says about us. You are loved. You are chosen. You are a child of God.
Jesus showed us the power of faith-filled words when He healed with a simple command or calmed the storm with a phrase. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Romans 8:11). When your words align with His will, they carry heavenly authority.
Today, choose to speak words seasoned with grace — over yourself, your family, and your circumstances. Reject negative, fearful speech and declare God’s promises instead. Speak healing, hope, and faith.
Your words are not empty — they are powerful instruments of life. Use them to create, bless, and build. Speak life today, and watch the fruit of your lips bring transformation to your heart and to those around you.
